Tip of the week
Drop from 90 to 80 km/h
Did you know that by lowering the speed from 90 km/h to 80 km/h you lower the fuel consumption with 10% but there is only a 1% time difference?
Get up close and reduce wind resistance
Platooning saves fuel. Already when driving 100 metres behind another truck. At 70 metres it’s already a 10% save.
Check the brakes regularly
Sometimes the brakes, especially on the trailer, get stuck. That is, obviously not good for fuel consumption.
Carry out appropriate maintenance
Getting the right service on your truck, at the right time, is essential. A truck with no flaws consumes less fuel.
Check your alignment
The axis has to be aligned to achieve less rolling resistance and reduce fuel consumption.
Check your tires
The importance of the right tire and the right pressure can’t be exaggerated.
Use the engine heater
When it’s getting chilly outside, use a engine pre-heater to speed up things.
Pimp your ride
Air deflectors and skirts will help the aerodynamics. Tightening the canopy will also make a difference.
Don’t pimp your ride
The form of the truck is optimized to minimize air resistance. Anything put on the outside will increase it, and the fuel consumption.
Plan your driving 2
By knowing how far it is to an obstacle, for example a red light, you can easily roll to the stop and not use the breaks at all.
Plan your driving 1
If you don’t use Scania Opticruise with CCAP: When approaching a hill, make sure you start the climb with some extra speed to avoid a fuel- and time-wasting gear change up the hill.
Idling is easy, but you can safely turn the engine off after just 20 seconds and save both fuel and the environment.
Facts & figures
Everything boils down to three fundamental cornerstones: The vehicle, the driver and the service. It’s within these areas we have explored large possibilities to improve the fuel economy for nearly everyone.
The powertrain is a crucial first step to improved fuel economy. Other significant factors include weight optimisation, aerodynamics, tyres and driver support systems such as Scania Opticruise or Scania Ecocruise. Things that can improve your fuel economy with up to 10%.
Even an experienced driver can improve his or her fuel economy by up to 10% with driver training. The latest driving tips, tricks and techniques keep your cruising speed up, and fuel consumption down – always in total safety.
It always pays to keep a close eye on axle alignment, tyre pressures, air deflector adjustment and lubrication, among other things. Regular access to professional Scania service keeps your Scania truck as fuel efficient as it was on delivery.
